Pay Attention To Your Formatting

March 20, 2008 – 6:03 pm

Please pay attention to the formatting of your posts. No one wants to read a long post without any whitespace, as it doesn’t allow optimum reading comprehension and can start to strain the eyes. An occasional indentation and paragraph return will not hurt you. Ideally, your paragraphs should be no more than six or so sentences long. For some reason, people really do like their soundbytes, so having an enormous paragraph may turn them off. In addition don’t set the horizontal width of your layout to be too wide. Take a look inside any newspaper or magazine and you will see that the columns are actually quite narrow. It is also a good idea to break up the monotony of a long page of just words with a relative image or two. Just don’t forget to apply those image search optimization techniques that I talked about in a previous post. And finally, always check to see that your post or page has been formatted correctly once you his post or upload it. This includes checking in all the major browsers (IE, Firefox, Safari and Opera) and at least 1024×768 and 800×600 resolutions.
